France's 36-year-old striker Olivier Giroud has had a tournament to remember.

First, he tied and broke Thierry Henry's record for most national team goals in France.

In the quarter-finals, he stepped forward again and became the hero of the match.

After the match, he said that the quarter-final reminded him of a special match just over four years ago.

- It is fantastic.

We worked superbly defensively when we scored our lead goal.

It was a bit reminiscent of the semi-final against Belgium in 2018, says Giroud after the victory.

Pays tribute to the English team: "Has all the qualities"

Already a minute before the 2–1 goal, Giroud was close to scoring.

- I knew I would get more chances and Antoine Griezmann gave me a nice pass.

Great for the team, I'm so proud.

This is reminiscent of the successes of 2018. Now it's just a matter of continuing, isn't it?

- Of course, but tonight was a really tough match.

We know the potential of the young English talent, they have all the qualities in their team, but we played a good game.

We tried to prevent their counterattacks and worked hard mentally.

I'm super proud of the team and of course hope it goes all the way now.
