Before "soccer" .. a verbal match between Macron and Sunak via "Twitter"

A verbal match between the French President and the British Prime Minister via Twitter preceded the upcoming confrontation, Saturday evening, between the two countries’ national teams in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

British official Emmanuel Macron asked, writing in English, "Dear Rishi Sunak, I'm looking forward to the match this evening. If the Blues win (they win), please wish us good luck in the semi-finals... OK?"

The British Prime Minister replied, "I hope I don't have to do that (...) I look forward to supporting the Three Lions in the next round."

After a period of tension between London and Paris, it appears that the government of Rishi Sunak, who assumed the premiership at the end of October against the backdrop of a political crisis, is adopting a more conciliatory tone towards France.

But what happens in diplomacy does not apply to football matches.
