An American journalist who was covering the World Cup in Qatar died suddenly in the press box at the stadium.

The Associated Press reported that "Famous American football journalist Grant Wall has died at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, where Argentina and the Netherlands were playing in the quarterfinals."

Fellow reporters sitting next to Wall reported the situation at the time, saying, "Wall suddenly collapsed during overtime and could not get up again."

Reporter Wall, who passed away at the young age of 48, was a veteran football journalist enough to cover the 8th World Cup, but was known to have been in poor health recently.

The Associated Press said, "He went to a hospital in Qatar earlier this month," and said, "I hardly slept for three weeks and was very stressed."

Reporter Wall, who graduated from Princeton University in the United States in 1996, mainly covered football and college basketball for Sports Illustrated (SI).

He posted on social media about how he was stopped by security personnel for trying to enter the stadium wearing a rainbow-colored T-shirt ahead of the opening of the World Cup in Qatar.

The U.S. Soccer Association issued a statement and expressed condolences on the death of reporter Wall.
