When Portuguese national team captain Fernando Santos presented the starting eleven for Tuesday's round of 16 against Switzerland, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was not present.

According to the Football Channel, the 37-year-old ended up in bad weather after the last group stage match against South Korea.

He then allegedly showed his displeasure and ended up in an exchange of words with an opponent in connection with the striker being replaced 25 minutes from the end.

The national team captain is said to have seen Ronaldo's behavior.

- Before my substitution, one of their players told me to speed up.

Then I told him to shut up.

He has no authority and should not say anything, Ronaldo told the British newspaper Daily Mirror.

Portuguese media write that Portugal's team captain must have used vulgar language towards his national team captain.

21-year-old Benfica player Goncalo Ramos takes Ronaldo's place.
