The Portugal national team completed the qualifiers for the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in the State of Qatar, by overwhelmingly defeating Switzerland 6-1 at Lusail Stadium, in a match that witnessed the brilliance of promising Gonzalo Ramos by scoring his first hat-trick in the World Cup.

The Portuguese national team rose to face its Moroccan counterpart in the quarter-finals, after qualifying for the "Atlas Lions" earlier at Spain's expense with a penalty shootout.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos surprised the observers by keeping star Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench, preferring him to young Gonzalo Ramos, who was at the good expectation of his coach and scored 3 goals.

Manuel Akanji reduced the score by scoring the only goal for Switzerland in the 58th minute, but Ramos returned to add Portugal's fifth goal, signing the first "hat-trick" in the tournament, before substitute Rafael Leao concluded the goal festival in the last minute.

Coach Santos involved the star Ronaldo in the last minutes, but he failed to score any goal.

The Moroccan and Portuguese teams will meet next Saturday in the quarter-finals at Al Thumama Stadium.
