Insulting reception of Argentine Martino in the Mexican capital...a strange reaction from the coach

A number of fans of the Mexican national football team received the coach of their country's Argentine national team, Gerardo Martino, badly upon his return to the capital, Mexico City, after his unsuccessful participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Some Argentine newspapers suggested that Martino was insulted by a few angry fans upon his return to Mexico City.

The Argentine newspaper La Nacion published a video showing some of these verbal insults.

Despite the photographers and fans besieging Martino, the coach's reaction was strange and he was very cohesive and kept calm as he left the airport building.

Martino took charge of the team in 2019, but he bid farewell to the current tournament in Qatar in the first round (group stage) after a 2-0 defeat against the Argentine national team.

With this, Martino's contract with the team ended.

"Martino knows that the negative atmosphere and the team's failure in the World Cup make it impossible for him to continue with the team," said Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation, during his stay in Qatar.

"We appreciate him as a great coach with potential ... but in football, results are what matters," said the sports director of the Mexican national team, Jaime Urdiales.
