Zharmukhamedov as part of CSKA won the European Champions Cup and became the 10-time champion of the USSR.
With the USSR national team, he won gold at the 1972 Olympic Games, bronze at the 1976 Olympic Games, silver and bronze at the World Championships, and also became a three-time European champion.
In 2012, a symbolic T-shirt with his number was raised under the vaults of the CSKA basketball arena.
