Before drop-off, a slideshow of Börje Salming's NHL career was shown and the announcer's voice in the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto told about his fantastic ice hockey journey.

For 21 seconds (after Salming's jersey number in the club), the Swede was then honored with a moment of silence.

The Toronto players, with five of the team's seven Swedes in the lineup, wore cloth badges - blue and yellow with the text "Börje" - which were produced after his death.

Marner touched a club record

Pierre Engvall scored a goal in the 3–1 win, as did Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

Marner has now scored in 18 straight games (seven goals and 17 assists), tying the club record for a streak.

But it was by the hair that he got points from the match.

The 3–1 goal came with just over a minute of play left

- We are all so happy for him.

It took until the end of the game and a few tries, but I'm so glad he managed to get the point, says Matthews after the game.

Calle Järnkrok left the ice injured in the second period and did not play again after that.

Surplus to ALS research

Börje Salming played 16 seasons in Toronto and still holds several club records.

He is the defender who scored the most goals of all time and also the player who accounted for the most assists.

His jersey hangs from the ceiling of the Scotiabank Arena and Salming also has a statue outside.

Last week it was announced that the ice hockey legend had died of complications from the nerve disease ALS.

Börje Salming was 71 years old.

As recently as three weeks ago, Salming himself was in Toronto and was celebrated for two nights in a row in the Maple Leafs' home arena.

On Wednesday, the club collected money for the organization ALS Action Canada.

Among other things through the sale of match shirts and the specially designed fabric brands.
