Officially.. a thigh injury keeps the Portugal star out of the World Cup

The Portuguese national team lost the efforts of its young back, Nuno Mendes, for the remainder of the World Cup in Qatar, according to the Portuguese Football Federation.

The Portuguese Federation revealed that the 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain full-back suffers from a thigh injury he suffered during the 2-0 victory over Uruguay in the second round of the group stage, and he will be “unavailable to participate in the activities of the national team.”

Despite the injury and his inability to complete the journey with Cristiano Ronaldo and his companions, Mendes will remain "within the national team delegation, where he will start working for recovery," according to the federation's statement.

Mendes missed the first match in the finals against Ghana (3-2) due to muscle fatigue, then participated in the second match against Uruguay, where he was injured before the end of the first half, leaving the stadium crying.

Portugal secured its qualification to the final price before the last round match that it will meet on Friday in South Korea, where it will need a tie point to guarantee the lead, regardless of the outcome of the second match between Ghana and Uruguay.
