In the last regular minute, Romelu Lukako had the big, big chance to give Belgium the lead and a chance to win.

The ball was played in from the right and Lukako was just going to put it in the goal but it bounced off him and goalkeeper Thibau Courtois was able to take care of the ball.

The Belgian players sat on the pitch with blank stares, some were consoled.

The Croats celebrated big.

After an hour a rebound went out to substitute Belgian star Romelu Lukaku who pulled the ball into the inside of the right post.

The fans of "The Red Devils" in the stands sighed in despair.

- It's unbelievable that he misses there, says commentator Chris Härenstam.

Long VAR review

After a quarter of an hour, there was a long VAR review of a possible penalty situation for Croatia, but a possible offside had occurred on Dejan Lovren.

Andrej Kramaric was also clearly offside, but he was a bit away from the ball track.

Luka Modric hit a free-kick which later resulted in a penalty kick for Croatia, Kramaric fell easily in a duel with Yannick Carrasco.

Modric had advanced to the penalty spot to beat it.

But the referee was in contact with the VAR room and ran out to look at television images.

After three minutes, referee Anthony Taylor waved away the penalty, much to Modric's dismay.

The graphic images showed an offside of a few millimeters for the Louvre if you drew the line right on the shoulder, difficult to even see in the produced images.

- When it's so complicated and so difficult and we're talking about millimeters, play on.

Somewhere we have lost the purpose of what football is, it is not digital with ones and zeros.

This rule was supposed to simplify, I say simplify, but it turned out to be the opposite, says ex-Fifa referee Jonas Eriksson with heat.

- I understand, but I think it's a crap rule, says presenter André Pop.
