The third and final group stage round of the World Cup begins on Tuesday.
The matches in Group B start at 20:00 and one of them is the charged fight between Iran and USA.
The countries have a tense political relationship with each other and after the recent protests in Iran, the relationship has not improved, as the US has clearly come out and condemned the Iranian regime.
The supporters were divided
On Sunday, the US national team posted an image on its social media of the matches in Group B, using an altered flag to represent Iran.
The emblem and Islamic text found in the center of Iran's official flag were missing.
A few hours later, a spokesperson from the American Football Association announced that the image had been removed, but emphasized that it still stands behind the women's fight against the regime.
Both the emblem and the text were introduced after the 1979 revolution and are associated with the hardline regime.
The USA's image prompted Iran to want the country disqualified from the World Cup.
At the same time, Iranian supporters are divided over their support for the national team, as a result of the protests in the country.
Those who are critical of the country's governance are afraid that success in the championship will be used as propaganda for the government.
The players must have received pressure
Even the players have shown dissatisfaction towards the country's government during the ongoing WC playoffs.
In the first match of the championship, against England, the players chose to stand in silence during the national anthem before kick-off.
But in the match that followed, when Iran faced Wales, the players sang before kick-off.
CNN states that between the games there has been pressure for the players to "behave" before the games.
According to the channel, the Iranian military organization the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened the national team players and their families with prison, violence and torture if the behavior is repeated.
The information must come from a person who works with security around the WC matches.
Iran and the USA are on three and two points respectively before the decisive match.
The match is thus directly decisive for advancement to the play-offs, with England leading the group on four points while Wales is last with one point recorded.
