Home games are a "must-win" for the Skyliners sports manager Marco Völler.

Only with the implementation of this unmistakable requirement is it not going to work out in Frankfurt this year.

Because contrary to their high expectations, the Hessians had to get used to losing in the ball sports hall: So far this calendar year they have only been able to win the meaningless encounter against Bayreuth in the previous season.

The 82:97 in the duel with Ulm was the next defeat for the Skyliners with their pronounced home weakness.

With 2:14 points, the Frankfurters, who slipped into the performance low in the third quarter (12:31), remain bottom of the table and are therefore facing difficult times in sport.

Top scorers against Ulm were Frankfurt's Lukas Wank with 18 and Matt Haarms with 17 points.

Wank also get ten assists.

In the end, the Skyliners recorded only seven free throws, six of which they converted.

Ulm, on the other hand, came up with 20 with 14 successful throws.

Once again, the Frankfurters were clearly inferior to their opponents in rebounds (27:37).

“Four of our six great players are injured.

I don't want to cry, but it's super frustrating," said Skyliners coach Geert Hammink.

Marcus Lewis makes his debut

Marcus Lewis made his debut in the Frankfurt jersey.

The build-up and winger, who was on the field for the first time in the eighth minute, used his 20-minute game time to score eight points.

The Skyliners would have happily extended Martina's two-month contract despite his ankle injury.

In his six appearances, the Lithuanian had risen to become Frankfurt's top scorer with 14.3 points per game.

He also averaged seven rebounds.

But now the ways of giving and the Hessians are likely to separate.

"It has not yet been finally decided, but it is going in this direction," Völler told the FAZ. Solely economic reasons should not be responsible for the player's upcoming departure.

"It's something internal, there are many reasons," said Völler, who praises giving: "He played well for us and was an important man."

Benzing no longer a candidate

Whether the Frankfurters sign a new player now depends on how quickly Lorenz Brenneke will overcome his adductor problems.

If the power forward were to return in a timely manner, "we would try it like this first," said Völler.

Robin Benzing, the 33-year-old former national team captain, who Frankfurt had contacted, is no longer a candidate as a reinforcement.

Benzing is rumored to be moving to Uruguay, said Völler.

The current squad was 20:22 behind against Ulm after the first quarter.

Five ball losses from Frankfurt prevented a better result.

After all, the Hessians were able to keep up to some extent with the rebounds: Ulm (10) had two more than the Frankfurters, who had the strongest rebounder with Quantez Robertson (3).

When the score was 25:29, the interaction between Captain Wank and Frazier was insufficient, which is why the Ulmer were back in attack mode.

With his three-point shot to 28:31, Frazier did better on his own shortly afterwards.

At half-time, Ulm was leading 45:42.

With ten turnovers, the Skyliners had twice as many as their opponent.

However, the two teams were tied for rebounds (18 each) and assists (14 each).

The biggest difference in performance in this game was revealed in the third quarter: Ulm got off to a lightning start and finally went into the final quarter with a 76:54 lead.

"The Ulmer ran us out of the hall with rapid attacks," said Hammink.

Wank complained about the lack of energy and spoke of having "classically overslept" these ten minutes.

In the final ten minutes, the Skyliners remained without a chance of winning despite an accurate roll, even if they reduced the gap.

It stays that way in 2022: home wins are not for the Skyliners.

In this condition they are again a contender for relegation.

"We just have to see that we get our players healthy," said Hammink.
