Germany and Spain resorted to a 1-1 draw, in one of the summits of the first round of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The match was held at Al-Bayt Stadium, as part of the second round of the fifth group competitions of the group stage.

The match started quietly between the two teams, as Spain tended to take possession of the ball as usual, while Germany appeared very cautious, for fear of conceding an early goal.

Germany and Spain tied

Dani Olmo broke the monotony of the first twenty minutes, and fired a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, after a group of short passes from the "La Roja" players, Manuel Neuer raised it with his fingertips, to hit the crossbar and go away from the goal.

The German response was strong, after Antonio Rudiger, the Manchaft defender, scored a goal in the fortieth minute, which was ruled out by Dutch referee Danny Makili for offside, so that the first half ended in a goalless draw.

And 7 minutes after the start of the second half, Spain coach Luis Enrique summoned his replacements from the bench and called on Alvaro Morata, who replaced Ferran Torres.

Germany's players managed to steal the ball from Spain's defense, after tremendous pressure, to reach Joshua Kimmich, who hit a ball that was managed by Simon, the Spain goalkeeper.

Substitute Morata rewarded coach Enrique for his confidence, and succeeded in converting a cross from Jordi Alba from the left, with a clever touch into the net of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, in the sixty-second minute.

And Germany had the opportunity to amend, after Jamal Musiala was explicitly singled out, who hit the body of Simon, the Spain goalkeeper, instead of hitting the net.

The Germans' efforts succeeded in adjusting the result, from a short pass to Musiala, which was snatched by substitute Niklas Volkrug, who fired it strongly into the right corner of goalkeeper Simon, to settle into the net at the 83rd minute.

With this result, Spain reached its fourth point at the top of Group E, so that the qualification for the second round was postponed to the last match, while Germany won its first point.

Germany's fortunes rebound

Germany's chances of avoiding the same fate as the 2018 World Cup in Russia, by exiting the first round, revived after this precious tie.

The "Manshafts" benefited from the loss of the Japanese national team against Costa Rica, with the goal of Kisher Fuller, in the match that was held at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, earlier.

The Japanese "Samurai" is in second place with 3 points, the same as Costa Rica, but the goal difference is in favor of the first, while the German national team is at the bottom of this group's standings with one point.

The matches of the third and final round of the first round of this group will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

The Spain national team will face its Japanese counterpart at Khalifa International Stadium, at ten o'clock in the evening Mecca Al-Mukarramah time, and at the same time the German national team will play against Costa Rica at the home stadium.
