A strong blow to Brazil... Neymar's absence from the Switzerland match

Brazilian star Neymar will miss the Switzerland match scheduled for next Monday in the second round of Group G competitions in the World Cup in Qatar, due to a sprain in his right ankle against Serbia (2-0), according to what the team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, announced on Friday.

Lasmar said in a video broadcast by the Brazilian Football Confederation that Neymar suffers from a "collateral ligament injury" to the ankle, while defender Danilo, in turn, sprained his ankle.

He added, "The two players will not be available for our next match, but they are continuing their treatment with the aim of regaining their services in time for the rest of the tournament."

And the "Globo Sport" website stated, for its part, that both players are at risk of not playing again in the first round, and their services can be restored at the final price if Brazil skips the first round.

On Thursday, Neymar left the Lusail stadium, limping, after contact with Nikola Milenkovic.

Images of a swollen right ankle raised fears of the worst, despite Selecao's convincing opening victory.

Lasmar had confirmed on Thursday evening that Neymar and Danilo had a sprain, but said he wanted to wait for new examinations to make a decision about the seriousness of these two injuries.

After the press conference after the match, Neymar left, limping slightly, without answering the journalists' questions, and he was wearing huge headphones on his head, accompanied by a member of the technical staff.

"We are confident that Neymar will play again in the World Cup," coach Tite said firmly.

Neymar was previously injured in the right ankle in 2019, which forced him to withdraw from participating in the Copa America competition.

Neymar, who is competing in the World Cup for the third time at the age of thirty, entered this competition in good condition after a roaring start to the season with his French club, Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil-Switzerland match will be held next Monday, before the third round against Cameroon next Friday.
