Unfortunately for Gérald Baticle, this is not the most surprising coaching ouster of this first part of the Ligue 1 season. The 53-year-old technician was dismissed on Thursday from the Angers bench, red lantern who remains on seven losses in a row.

The club said in a statement that Baticle was informed of his “layoff, as a precautionary measure” during an interview on Wednesday with President Saïd Chabane.

The reserve coach and director of the training center Abdel Bouhazama will take over as interim.

A club under tension

The atmosphere had been flawed for months within the Angevin club, with in particular very tense relations between Baticle and Bouhazama.

The former Auxerre striker, who succeeded local legend Stéphane Moulin on the SCO bench in the summer of 2021, is the seventh coach dismissed since the start of a tense season haunted by the prospect of four runs in League 2.

He joins Peter Bosz (Lyon), Michel Der Zakarian (Brest), Jean-Marc Furlan (Auxerre), Oscar Garcia (Reims), Olivier Dall'Oglio (Montpellier) and Bruno Irles (Troyes).
