Team Hasselborg found themselves in a precarious position after three losses in the opening five EC rounds, but after a couple of wins they had the playoff dream fully in their own hands ahead of today's two final group stage matches.

They also looked to be heading for victory in today's first match against Italy.

With one regular round left to play, Sweden led 4–3, but it was Italy who had the advantage to lay the last stone - and they managed to make it big for Sweden.

"Don't understand what happened"

Anna Hasselborg did have the chance to sort out the misery with her last stone - but missed.

- I was absolutely certain that I would put the last stone and I was half way down the track too, so I still don't understand what happened with that stone.

Everything had gone very, very straight and I play the right speed and put it on the sweep but mine is the only one curling there so I guess it's flat in the slide track and then it becomes a bit of a random variable and we don't seem to have that chance with us this week, says Anna Hasselborg.

Now a victory is required in tonight's match against Turkey (broadcast on SVT Play starting at 19.00) for them to have a chance to reach the semi-finals, in addition both Germany and Italy must not win their final group stage matches.

- We can hope for better luck now with the other results, says Hasselborg.
