Spain's new midfield creator, Gavi, best on the field, was given the honor to very beautifully make it 5-0.

The 18-year-old from FC Barcelona stretched his right foot forward and with an outside volley he scored via the right post.

It was a big breakthrough for the teenager when Spain scored seven goals in a World Cup match for the first time.

Gavi was the youngest goalscorer in a World Cup since Pelé in 1958.

In the last regular minute, Nico Williams played the ball hard after the ground from the right wing.

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas went out and headed the ball right out of the lane where Carlos Soler appeared to make it 6-0.

From speed alone, Alvaro Morata made it 7-0 in added time as Spain had a toy with the Costa Rican defence.

- It's almost like you feel it's enough now, says SVT Sports expert Markus Johannesson.

Union captain Luis Enrique couldn't even manage a smile on the bench.

The match was already decided after half an hour

At the start of the second half, Spain extended their lead to 4-0.

Ferran Torres made his way into the penalty area and, battling with two defenders and goalkeeper Keylor Navas, he was able to turn and slot the ball into the net for his second goal.

Soon after, he was replaced.

The goal was a clear illustration of Spain's superiority.

The victory was long overdue, the only question was how big the numbers would be.

Already after just over half an hour, the match was decided.

In the 11th minute, super talent Gavi, 18, played the ball through an opponent's leg to Dani Olmi, who received it with his foot, turned and chipped the ball over Keylor Navas to make it 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Jordi Alba scored the ball from the left wing.

Marco Asensio went straight to the half volley and via Navas he made it 2-0.

After half an hour, Alba got a foot over the heel, felt the contact, and went down the hill.

Ferran Torres coolly took care of the subsequent penalty where he went more by feeling than power.

3-0 to Spain.

Thus, all three of Spain's strikers had scored and the team got a tasty start to this championship.

- It was an overrun and Costa Rica had nothing to oppose, says SVT's WC expert Albin Ekdal.
