At a special press conference on Wednesday, the Danish Football Association (DBU) commented on what has happened.

- We wrote to Fifa on September 19 that we wanted the armband at the WC, we received no reply.

We were at another meeting on October 12 where we asked for an answer, but we didn't get it.

We went to the WC without an answer and started meetings with Fifa down here, says DBU CEO Jakob Jensen according to Ritzau.

"Does not combine"

First on the ground in Qatar, Fifa made announcements, but they were revised from one day to the next.

Last Saturday, November 19, Fifa reportedly threatened fines if the "One Love" captain's armband was used.

The following day it was changed to threats of sporting penalties.

Fifa's tone is said to have hardened even more on Monday, the same day that England was to play their first game against Iran.

- On November 21, the situation escalated further when Fifa asked England for an urgent meeting where they made it clear that there would be sporting sanctions with at least a yellow card if the player wore the armband, says Jensen.

Furthermore, Jensen says that it could even happen that the team captain had been suspended for several matches.

- Normally, football unites people.

But that is not the case here, says Jensen according to Ritzau.

Not supporting Infantino

DBU chairman Jesper Møller calls the whole thing unacceptable and says that Denmark does not intend to support Fifa chairman Gianni Infantino in the next presidential election.

But Jensen also explains that Infantino has great support from many other countries.

- I have never experienced anything like it.

I am disappointed and angry, says Jesper Møller.

- To put our players in a situation like this so soon before an important premiere, where you are not allowed to use a captain's armband that we had expected to use, is unacceptable.

Peter Møller, overall responsible for the national teams, says that the issue of withdrawing from Fifa will be brought up if there are no changes.

But he hopes that things happen in Fifa before you end up there.

Denmark was one of seven European countries that had intended to use the "One Love" armband, as a stand for diversity and inclusion, in the World Cup.

But after Fifa's threat, all countries chose to scrap the bond.
