WC Tuesday was a day filled with big shocks.

When France were shocked in the tenth minute, another major power looked set to be the next victim.

It was Craig Goodwin who fired in 1-0 from an excellent cross from Mathew Leckie.

In the same situation, the world champions' left-back Lucas Hernandez stepped off, with a feared knee injury, and was replaced by his younger brother Theo.

Although Australia continued to threaten, it was France who grabbed the baton and both equalized and took the lead.

First Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot before Milan's Olivier Giroud scored his 50th national team goal to make it 2–1.

Debuted as a 25-year-old

In the second half, France and not least Giroud continued to impress.

The striker headed in the 71st minute to make it 4–1, which was his 51st goal in his 115-match national team career.

He now has as many goals as the legendary Thierry Henry, who won the World Cup gold with France in 1998.

Giroud began his national team career in November 2011 as a 25-year-old after an impressive autumn in Montpellier.

Since then, he has been a constant factor for France and helped win the 2018 World Cup, despite not scoring a goal in the tournament.

After Tuesday's two goals, Giroud has now accounted for three goals in the World Cup, the first since Brazil 2014.

France now lead the group ahead of Denmark and Tunisia who played to a draw earlier in the day.
