Pascual del Chopo, Ecuador's ambassador to Doha, sat after the match with his family celebrating the precious 2-1 victory over Qatar at the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Al Jazeera Net met with him to talk about the victory, the opening ceremony, and his expectations for his country.

"The opening ceremony was very beautiful, distinguished and unique. For me, the most exciting moment was the match we won after a good performance, it made everyone know how good my country is," Choupo said with great pleasure after introducing his family members.

He added, "If you want to prove your presence among the winning teams and champions in the game, please win. This time we want to win and make history in the World Cup and I am very excited for the continuation of the victories of our national teams."

Chubu continued, "I feel proud of my country and its coach. We have already won a match. I think we will also pass the second round successfully and qualify for the second round, but I hope we will be first in the group. Finally, I thank everyone and thank the Qataris, the most charming people in the world."

Ecuador has participated in 4 World Cups, all in the last 20 years since the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan.
