The Qatar national team started its first participation in the World Cup by losing to Ecuador with two goals without a response, in the match that was held at Al-Bayt Stadium, after the end of the dazzling opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in the presence of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Ecuador national team owes its victory to its captain, Ener Valencia, who scored two goals in the first half, to give the South American team the first three points in Group A, which also includes the Netherlands and Senegal.

Italian referee Orsato returns to the semi-automatic offside technique and cancels Inner Valencia's goal because it was preceded by an offside situation.

Ecuadorian control

The guests imposed their control over the course of the first half, amid the absence of focus on the Qatar national team players, who did not pose a real danger to the Ecuador national team, with the exception of a single attempt that was missed by striker Al-Moez Ali.

Ecuador opened the match with an early goal through Valencia, but the Italian referee, Daniele Orsato, ruled it out for offside, just three minutes after the start of the match.

In the 15th minute, the referee awarded a penalty kick to the Ecuadorian national team, after a strong intervention by Qatari goalkeeper Saad Al-Sheeb, before the same player returned to score the second goal with a powerful header in the 31st minute.

In the second half, the level of the Ecuadorian national team declined, but despite this, the Qatar national team did not take the initiative to attack, and missed opportunities to score.

Spain's Felix Sanchez, coach of the Qatar national team, made several substitutions, so captain Hassan Al-Haydos and Al-Moez Ali came out, and included Muhammad Waad and Muhammad Muntari.

Muntari was to score the goal of reducing the deficit in the 86th minute, with a powerful shot that just over the Ecuadorean crossbar.
