The organizer rejects accusations that it has hired people to dress up as supporters of other national teams, due to a lack of sufficient interest in the controversial World Cup tournament.

"A number of journalists and commentators on social media have questioned whether the fans in place are 'genuine'.

We reject these accusations, which are regrettable and expected," they write in a statement according to the AP news agency.

Danish national team captain Kasper Hjulmand disagrees.

- It is ridiculous theater that we have to see something like this, he tells Ekstrabladet and believes that he experienced similar scenes during the WC in Japan and South Korea in 2002.

The already heavily criticized tournament in Qatar is eating away at Hjulmand.

- I feel very divided, and I don't necessarily feel great.

"My job is to protect the players"

The national team captain says that the Danish squad talks freely about Qatar and that it is "perfectly okay" to ask about the country, but that the players must be allowed to choose whether they can and want to answer the questions.

- My job is to protect the players.

I really think it is difficult because we have come here to play football.

But I also want to scream and make noise.

- If I have argued too much and then we lose against Tunisia, my focus has gone wrong.

No matter what we do, someone will think we did too much or too little.

It is impossible to choose the right one.

But if you have it, call me, concludes Hjulmand.

Denmark opens the World Cup on November 22 against Tunisia.
