The road to the semi-finals for Sweden in the EC handball was complicated - but still easy to understand.

• Slovenia needed to beat Hungary, Norway needed to win against Denmark while Sweden beat Croatia.

But it stopped even before Sweden played its match, because Slovenia fell against Hungary.

Hungary started the final round strongly and dominated much of the first half.

But with 30 minutes played, Slovenia caught up, 14–14.

Then there was still hope for Sweden.

However, it would turn out that the second half was even worse from home team Slovenia, which seemed gratuitous.

Hungary pulled away further and won 28–25.

Can be third at best

Sweden can now go up to the same points as second place Denmark, but not go past as Denmark won the team's head-to-head meeting in the first group game.

Third place in the group is now the best possible for Sweden, which would mean a match for fifth and sixth place in the tournament.

A fifth place is important in the pursuit of games in the Olympics in Paris 2024.

Norway and Denmark are both now ready for the semi-finals from Sweden's group.

The Scandinavian showdown tonight will decide who wins the group.
