This afternoon, the groups were drawn for the European Volleyball Championship, which will be held in Belgium, Italy, Germany and Estonia between August 15 and September 3 next year.

Sweden ended up in the same group as home nation Germany, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Greece and Azerbaijan.

Everyone meets everyone and the top four move on to the round of 16.

All the matches will be decided in Düsseldorf.

- Turkey, Germany and the Czech Republic are all ranked higher than us, but we have good players and will come as well prepared as we can to challenge them.

Greece and Azerbaijan are ranked lower than us, but are also strong teams.

We will have to work hard to earn good results and it feels good that we will be put to the test right away, says Sweden's confederation captain Lauri Hakala.

Sweden's women's volleyball team qualified for this year's EC thanks to the historically strong result in EC 2021. At that time, it was the first time in 38 years that a Swedish women's national team had managed to reach an EC final in volleyball.

Once there, they progressed from the group as the fourth team and in the round of 16 they made a big splash when they defeated the great nation Bulgaria in a thrilling five-setter.

In the quarter against the Netherlands it stopped, but then the place for the next European Championship was already secured.
