The German Football Association (DFB) has provisionally suspended HSV professional Mario Vuskovic, who is suspected of doping.

As the DFB announced on Tuesday, the ban was issued as part of an injunction in accordance with the association's legal and procedural rules.

It applies in the main until the decision of the DFB sports court.

Exogenous erythropoietin (Epo) was detected in a doping sample taken on September 16, 2022 by Croatia's U-21 international.

The 20-year-old central defender has been taken out of training by his club for the time being.

An analysis of the centre-back's B-sample has now been requested, and he turns 21 on Wednesday.

Vuskovic maintains his innocence.

The Croatian is not part of the trip to the USA that is currently taking place.

The Croatian Vuskovic was initially loaned out by Hajduk Split in the summer, before this season HSV signed him for a fixed fee of 3 million euros.

Up until the game against Sandhausen, Vuskovic was in the starting line-up in each of the 16 games in the first half of the season and scored two goals.
