Djokovic did not get the opportunity to defend his Australian Open title last time because he has not been vaccinated against covid-19.

After many tours - with the Serb first receiving a medical exemption to participate in the tournament - Djokovic finally had his visa revoked, which resulted in him having to leave the country.

He was also not allowed to participate in the late summer's US Open.

Before the upcoming Australian Open, 16–29 January 2023, the situation is different.

The Guardian writes that Djokovic will be granted a visa by the Australian government to participate in the tournament, something that is also reported in several Australian media.

Furthermore, the newspaper writes that Australia will lift the three-year entry ban in the country that the tennis star received when his visa was revoked.

After winning his opening match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the ATP Finals in Turin on Monday night, Djokovic said he had yet to hear anything "official" from the Australian government.

Djokovic has won the Australian Open nine times - more than anyone else in history.
