"I knew I was going to take a 26th"

It was the chef's surprise on Monday at Clairefontaine.

In addition to replacing injured Presnel Kimpembe with Axel Disasi, Didier Deschamps has called up a 26th player for Qatar: Marcus Thuram, son of world champion Lilian Thuram.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach striker had not been seen in blue since the summer of 2021 and the Euro.

Some were afraid, would Thuram come to replace Karim Benzema, in difficulty with his thigh for several weeks?

"In my mind, I knew I was going to take a 26th. I took the player I had in mind last Wednesday, but it was made official today. But it's not compared to Karim or another attacker who might have concerns," replies Didier Deschamps.

Marcus Thuram has been in the thick of it for a few weeks.

He scored another magnificent goal against Borussia Dortmund this weekend.

He is currently the second top scorer in the German championship, but behind another Frenchman, Christopher Nkunku, also in Deschamps' list.

In front, the places will therefore be expensive for the relay of the star duo Benzema-Mbappé.
