It looked more or less impossible even before today's meeting with Israel, but with Slovenia's 81-75 victory against Germany earlier this evening, it is now completely done.

There will be no WC for Sweden - even though they did their part and beat Israel 71-68 in Norrköping.

They can certainly move up to the same points as group three Slovenia if they win their two remaining matches while Slovenia loses against Estonia and Israel, but that is of secondary importance as Slovenia has already defeated Sweden on two previous occasions in the qualifiers and head-to-head meetings serve as tiebreaker.

However, the victory against Israel was not completely in vain as each victory means ranking points for the upcoming qualifying draws.

"Bad fourth period"

However, the Swedish effort left a lot to be desired.

- I think Sweden has a downright lousy fourth period, I'm sorry but it's the truth, they lead by nine points but can't get a single defensive rebound after that and Israel is fighting harder.

Sweden should be happy that they get the victory, says SVT's basketball expert Nick Rajacic.

Sweden's national team captain Mikko Riipinen chose to see the positive.

- I think we are not playing very well, but it is also important to understand that it is worth a lot in the long run if you can still win.

When we then go to the EC, it's exactly matches like this that we have to win, when everything doesn't click.

If it clicks for these players, we can beat anyone, says Riipinen.
