A doping case behind the exclusion of Al-Mawlid from the "Saudi Green" list... and Al-Abed instead

Saudi striker Fahd Al-Mawlid was excluded from his country's squad to participate in the 2022 World Cup in football "as a precautionary measure" due to a doping case, and French coach Herve Renard summoned the player Nawaf Al-Abed instead, according to what the Saudi national team account announced on Twitter on Sunday.

The team said in a statement, "After reviewing the developments of the appeal of the International Anti-Doping Committee WADA in the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS regarding the player Fahd Al-Mawlid, and after sharing views with the legal department of the Saudi Football Association and the lawyer of the Saudi Football Association, and accordingly and as a precautionary measure." Renard decided to exclude the player and recall the 32-year-old Al-Abed player.

The Saudi Anti-Doping Control Committee had issued a decision that included banning the Al-Shabab player for a period of 18 months, starting from last March 28, after it was proven that he had taken the banned substance furosemide on February 21, 2022. After that, the Saudi Sports Arbitration Center took its decision regarding the appeal submitted by The former Al-Ittihad striker, against his suspension, decided to reduce it, according to press reports, and allow him to participate in the matches officially, before WADA appealed this reduction before the arbitration court.

This is not the first time that the generator has been suspended for doping, and he was previously convicted in a similar case in 2019, when it was decided to stop it for a whole year.

Al-Mawlid, 28, began his career with Al-Ittihad in 2011 and won the King’s Cup in 2013 and the Crown Prince Cup in 2017, knowing that he moved to the Saudi Al-Shabab Club and participated in the World Cup in Russia 2018 with the “Green Falcons” team.

On the international level, he appeared with the Saudi national team in 68 matches, in which he scored 17 goals, and his most prominent international goals were against Japan when he qualified for the Saudi team to the World Cup in Russia 2018. The star of the Saudi team, Sami Al-Jaber, tweeted, “Nawaf Al-Abed is one of the greatest talents that He passed on Saudi football, fate decided that we would not enjoy him in the 2018 World Cup due to injury, and we are happy with his return to the World Cup 2022 squad. Great fairness and we bet on his experience and capabilities. Thank you to Captain Fahd Al-Mawlid.
