Hamburger SV suffered their second away defeat and thus missed out on the top spot in the second division.

The North Germans lost 1-0 (0-1) on Wednesday evening at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, who won their third game under the leadership of their new coach Alexander Zorniger.

Under-19 international Armindo Sieb gave the hosts the lead after a remarkable combination (8th minute).

It was his third goal in the last three games.

Fürther Timothy Tillman saw the red card after a rude foul (88th).

Three days before the end of the year this season, Hamburg got out of rhythm.

The guests did not like the early pressing by Fürth in the opposing half.

They made mistakes and were punished early on.

In his 50th game as HSV coach, Tim Walter saw how a supposed headed goal by Robert Glatzel was not recognized for offside (25th).

The running and fighting strong Middle Franconia had more chances in the second half.

Her victory was deserved.

HSV lost again after two wins and were unable to give their coach a belated present for his 47th birthday the day before.

One consolation: Hamburg remains second in the table, one point ahead of 1. FC Heidenheim.

Under Zorniger's leadership, Fürth, who were relegated to the Bundesliga, stopped their descent and jumped from 14th to ninth place.

Three wins, three times to zero - the Franconians give a completely different picture than weeks ago.

Regensburg against Braunschweig without a winner

The SSV Jahn Regensburg and Eintracht Braunschweig, on the other hand, are still on the spot.

In a game with few highlights, Jahn and the newly promoted team from Lower Saxony drew 1-1 (1-1) on Wednesday.

Charalambos Makridis (11th) initially gave the hosts the lead, who fell back one place to tenth in the table after the draw.

Lion Lauberbach (14th) scored to equalize for Braunschweig, who was eleventh in the table.

The lively first quarter of an hour provided the only highlights of the first half for the spectators.

After Joshua Mees shot the post, the ball bounced off the back of Braunschweig goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann and from there bounced right at Makridis' feet, who only had to put the ball into the goal from close range.

The visitors struck back three minutes later.

Lauberbach completed a worthwhile play in a confined space after a deep pass from Robin Krausse with the goal to make it 1-1 by skilfully maneuvering the ball past goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum with his outside instep.

After that, the balanced game flattened out.

Regensburg lacked the creative solutions and the precision near the penalty area to put Braunschweig under pressure.

The Lower Saxony largely limited themselves to the defensive and occasional counterattacks, which, however, were not consistently played to the end.

Heidenheim consolidated third place

After a turbulent game at SV Sandhausen in the second half, 1. FC Heidenheim is still involved in the second division promotion race.

Coach Frank Schmidt's team was somewhat lucky to win 4:3 (2:0) against the Kurpfalzer, who were threatened with relegation, on Wednesday.

The third-placed team is only two points behind the leaders Darmstadt 98, who play in Magdeburg on Thursday.

In front of 3471 spectators, Tim Siersbleben (31st minute) and striker Tim Kleindienst (40th), who played again in the storm center after a yellow card suspension, as well as Christian Kühlwetter (48th) and substitute Kevin Sessa (73rd) scored for the guests.

Merveille Papela (50th), Christian Kinsombi (76th) and Alexander Esswein (80th) scored the goals for Sandhausen.

In continuous rain, Heidenheim, unbeaten for four games, largely dominated the game in the first half.

Sandhausen's Christian Kinsombi put the ball on the outside of the post (22'), but nine minutes later FCH central defender Siersleben put FCH on the road to victory with a header.

Sandhausen's Patrick Drewes, who was back in goal for the first time after tearing a muscle fiber, misjudged a corner kick from Jan-Niklas Beste.

After the break, Heidenheim looked like the sure winner after Sessas 1:4, but made it exciting again against the now growing stronger hosts, who were vehemently pushing for an equalizer in the final phase, but with defensive errors.

Rostock's late luck with a new coach

Hansa Rostock's new trainer Patrick Glöckner was lucky enough to make a moderate debut.

Two days after the commitment of the second division novices to succeed the dismissed promotion coach Jens Härtel, the “Kogge” remained without a win in their fourth home game with a 1:1 (0:1) against old champions 1. FC Nürnberg and missed the chance for a larger lead to the danger zone.

The club meanwhile, after their fourth game in a row without a sense of achievement at the weekend, is going into the first half of the final from a relegation zone.

Fabian Nürnberger gave the guests the lead after just five minutes.

Substitute Joker Nils Fröling (90+1) saved Glöckner from a false start with the late equaliser.

Rostock started with commitment and also created a chance early on.

However, Svante Ingelsson found his master in guest goalkeeper Christina Mathenia (3rd).

Almost in direct return, Nürnberger hits with the first shot of the Franks.

Hansa then tried to equalize, but didn't get any more significant scoring chances until the break.

In the second period, the hosts increased the pressure.

However, Glöckner's players failed several times because of Mathenia, who initially prevented the North Germans from equalizing.

However, Fröling rewarded the hosts for their persistent efforts.
