For the start of the Route du Rhum 2022, the Escoffier family will be widely represented.

Loïc and Kevin Escoffier, sons of Jean-Yves Escoffier who won this competition three times, will set sail this Wednesday each aboard their respective ships.

Objective for the two brothers, finish the race.

In Saint-Malo, the start of the Route du Rhum is imminent.

The 138 skippers, who were due to set sail last Sunday, had to wait a few more days in the face of capricious weather.

So the sailors use the last hours available to make the final preparations before setting sail. Among them, the brothers Loïc and Kevin Escoffier.

“We are a bit at home here”

The two men were contaminated by the passion of their father Franck-Yves Escoffier, three-time winner of the Route du Rhum.

Because for the Escoffiers, sailing is a contagious passion.

The public was able to discover Kevin during the last Vendée Globe.

He was then rescued by Jean Le Cam.

Now it's Loïc's turn to make himself known to the general public.

A fisherman in everyday life, he now wants to face his brother.

"We are a bit at home here in Saint-Malo, so it's just fun," he says at the microphone of Europe 1. "Kevin has a track record as long as your arm. It's the elite of world sailing today", explains Loïc, his eyes filled with admiration for his brother.

Two different routes

"Loïc, since he was little, since he could speak, he wanted to become a fisherman. He gave himself the means to do it, and that's what is interesting in our careers", underlines Kevin Escoffier .

"And today, we arrive in exactly the same port, on the same race, but with completely different routes."

Over the next few days, their trajectories should look alike for once.

With, in a corner of the head, the idea of further enlarging the Escoffier trophy cabinet.
