Lionel Messi played in Newell's Old Boys from the age of six until he turned twelve.

It was during those years that FC Barcelona opened their eyes to him after he scored 234 goals in 176 games.

And while many dream of his return, it is most likely to remain a dream.

Rosario is classified as one of Argentina's most criminal cities.

- If I have to be realistic, considering the situation in Argentina, I think that Messi is bigger than the country.

Times are tough in Rosario when it comes to security and finances, so I think it will be tough for him to come here, says Newells supporter Rodrigo to SVT Sport, who is visiting Lionel Messi's parent club's arena during a home game.

"Can't move freely here"

Radio host Mariano Sinito is of the same opinion.

He has watched the club for several years and does not see a future with Messi in the white and red shirt.

- We have criminal leagues that indirectly control the club.

How then can the safety of Messi and his family be guaranteed?

I don't think anyone would hurt him here, but he wouldn't be able to move freely in Rosario.

And quite honestly, the club does not have the resources to cover the costs it would entail to have him here, says Mariano Sinito and continues.

- I don't see it happening now, but hopefully I'm wrong.

I rely on my faith, that he will come here after the WC.
