Alexander Wennberg scored his first goal late in the second period as he extended Seattle's lead to 3–0.

But was first ruled out when the Swede was deemed to have deliberately headed the puck into the goal.

After a period of video review, the goal could be approved, however, as it was established that the puck missed the back of the head and instead hit the back into the goal.

In the third period, the Stockholmer closed the match with his second goal, to 4–0.

Ovetchkin touched the record

Washington lost to Detroit but still has reason to celebrate.

Alexander Ovetchkin scored the team's only goal in the 3–1 loss, but with that touch the record for most goals in the NHL with one and the same club.

Like Gordie Howe, Ovechkin has now scored 786 goals for an NHL team.

Howe scored his goals in 1,687 games over 25 regular seasons with Detroit.

Ovechkin reached the milestone after 1,285 games over 17 seasons with Washington, which picked him No. 1 overall in the 2004 NHL Draft.

- It's pretty cool to do this, even though I would have preferred to break the record, says Ovetchkin according to nhl.com.

Ovechkin has already scored six goals in 12 games this season.

Lucas Raymond scored one of Detroit's three goals in the win.
