In this 2022 Qatar World Cup, the 'street cheering' in Seoul will disappear every World Cup.

The Korea Football Association announced that it will submit an official letter of cancellation of the application for permission to use Gwanghwamun Square to the relevant departments in Seoul.

The Football Association explained, "Like the 2018 World Cup in Russia, we prepared street cheering in Seoul and Gwanghwamun Plaza in advance, but after a deep discussion, we decided that it was not appropriate to hold street cheer this time."

The association added, "It has been less than a month since the Itaewon disaster, and it was decided that it was not in line with the public sentiment to cheer on the streets in the same building."

Street cheer is the biggest feast for Korean soccer fans, which has been held every four years since the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup.

In the past, the private sector, such as sponsors and companies, took the initiative, but since the 2018 Russian Games, the Football Association and the Seoul Metropolitan Government have jointly hosted the event.
