In a letter that was sent to the 32 national confederations on Thursday, Fifa president Gianni Infantino and general secretary Fatma Samoura write, among other things, that they wish the active members to refrain from handing out morality cakes.

“Please, let's now focus on football.

Don't let the sport become embroiled in every ideological or political battle that exists," write Infantino and Samoura in their dispatch.

Want to play in rainbow armbands

Ever since Qatar was awarded the organizing mission in 2010, criticism has been fierce, both because of the vulnerable situation of migrant workers and the country's laws that criminalize homosexuality.

Recently, eight European teams have announced that they will play with heart-shaped armbands to support an anti-discrimination campaign.

England and Wales have applied to play in rainbow colored armbands to support LGBTQ rights.

But they have not yet received an answer from Fifa.

However, Infantino and Samoura write the following in their letter:

"FIFA tries to respect all opinions and beliefs without imparting moral lessons to the rest of the world.

One of the world's great strengths is indeed its diversity, and if inclusion means anything, it means respecting diversity.

No people or culture or nation is 'better' than any other.

This principle is the very cornerstone of mutual respect and non-discrimination.

And this is also one of football's core values".
