In three weeks, the soccer World Cup will begin in Qatar.

A championship that has been criticized for several reasons, among other things, the hosting has been marred by corruption and the country is accused of violating basic human rights.

Between the years 2019 and 2021, the Swedish Football Association chose to place the men's national team's so-called January tour in Qatar.

A routine that changed after the Allsvenskan clubs put their foot down for the planned trip in 2022.

“Would be extremely surprised”

The Swedish Football Association has long stressed the importance of having an impact on the ground.

This means that the football trips, in collaboration with expert organisations, can contribute to spreading knowledge about, for example, human rights.

But according to Tobias Tibell, a January tour to Qatar would not be relevant today.

- With the awareness we have in these matters today, I would be extremely surprised if the Swedish Football Association chose to put a football activity there, he says.

Hedvig Lindahl thinks the issue is complex

Swedish national team goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl was also a guest in Agenda.

She does not think the question is completely obvious.

- I think it is difficult, is it right or wrong to go there?

You can't influence that much if you're not there, perhaps.

It is very difficult to say what to do, should you be there or distance yourself?

It's a very gray debate (neither black nor white, ed. note) I feel, she says.
