Several people Reuters spoke to say that several thousand people have been evicted and that in some cases they have only been given a couple of hours to leave their homes.

Many reportedly have nowhere to go and are therefore said to have been forced to sleep on the street.

A government official says, according to Reuters, that the evictions have nothing to do with the soccer World Cup but are "in line with ongoing comprehensive and long-term plans to reorganize the areas of Doha."

- Everyone has since been relocated to safe and suitable accommodation.

The International Football Association (FIFA) does not want to comment on the data and the World Cup organizers refer to the country's government.
