His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, headed the UAE delegation participating in the 34th meeting of the heads of the Olympic Committees of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, which was held yesterday in the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, in the presence of Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, opened the meeting with a speech in which he welcomed the heads and representatives of the Gulf Olympic committees, wishing everyone success in support of Gulf sports in general.

The meeting extended thanks and appreciation to the UAE, represented by the National Olympic Committee, headed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for hosting the first edition of the Gulf Youth Games in 2023, where the meeting valued the efforts of the UAE in supporting Arab sports and stimulating Olympic sports. , especially in its Gulf context.

During the meeting, many important issues were approved, as it was agreed to change the name of the Gulf Sports Dispute Resolution Commission to the Sports Arbitration Commission for the Cooperation Council States, and the timetable for the upcoming Gulf Sports Games was also approved.

The dates of the Gulf sports tournament for combat and gymnastics games in Saudi Arabia 2024, the third Gulf sports tournament for beach games in the Sultanate of Oman in 2025, the fourth Gulf sports games in Qatar 2026, and the fourth Gulf sports tournament for beach games in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2027, in order to ensure the continued establishment of sports courses And commitment to the dates and places of hosting them, to support and strengthen brotherly ties among the youth of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and to develop the levels of the Gulf sports teams.

The meeting also witnessed the approval of organizing the Champions League for collective games, as well as strengthening the capabilities of the Olympic committees and enabling them to ensure their continuity in organizing the joint work process, achieving the aspirations of the GCC athletes, and exchanging distinguished experiences and expertise regarding the system of joint work in the sports field.

The meeting stressed the importance of women’s participation in all sports courses, and considering increasing the number of sports for women in the upcoming sessions, in addition to assigning the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council to coordinate with the presidency for the next session 2023, to set the date of the 35th meeting.

The meeting witnessed a review of the final report of the third Gulf Games in Kuwait, which was held last May, as well as a review of the recommendations of the General Secretariat regarding the final statement of the Supreme Council at its 42nd session, the organizing committees of sports, and joint international cooperation in the field of sports work.

At the end of the meeting, memorial photos were taken of the heads of the Gulf Olympic committees and the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, with the torch of the Saudi Games, which opened at King Fahd International Stadium. They compete in 45 individual and team sports, including five Paralympic sports.
