In the 2021 season, which ended with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen becoming world champion for the first time, the team spent more money than was allowed, which became known earlier this autumn.

Formula 1, together with the international motorsport federation FIA, announced during Friday that Red Bull has accepted that they violated the financial rules and reached an agreement with the FIA.

"Red Bull exceeded the cost ceiling in 2021 by less than five percent ($1.8 million or 1.6 percent), which is a minor breach of contract," FIA and Formula 1 write in a statement.

Red Bull is thus fined seven million dollars (about SEK 77 million), which must be paid to the FIA over the next 30 days.

The team also gets a ten percent restriction on how much they can test their car in the wind tunnel during the next twelve months.
