The Spanish prosecutor's office may have initially requested two years in prison and ten million euros in fines against Neymar, accused of corruption, the latter found himself cleared on Friday.

All the charges that hung over the Brazilian striker and the other defendants in the trial, for alleged irregularities surrounding his transfer to FC Barcelona in 2013, have indeed been withdrawn.

Speaking at one of the last hearings of this trial being held in Barcelona, less than a month from the World Cup, the prosecutor announced "withdraw the accusation against all the defendants and for all the facts" with which they are accused.

In addition to Neymar and his parents, two former presidents of Barça, Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as a former manager of the Brazilian club Santos, Odilio Rodrigues Filho, are on trial in this trial which is due to end on Monday.

Spanish justice is seeking to determine in this trial whether the Brazilian investment company DIS, holder of 40% of the player's rights when he played for Santos, before his departure for Catalonia, had been defrauded during this transfer.

An exclusive contract from 2001 with Barça?

DIS, which brought the case to court in 2015, believes that it was wronged during this operation and claims that Barça, Neymar and his family and then Santos, in a second step, joined forces to conceal the real amount of the operation and "swindle" him.

She criticizes them for not having informed her of the existence of an exclusive contract signed in 2001 between the player and Barça which, according to her, distorted the transfer window by preventing other clubs from fighting to recruit Neymar. .

Barça initially estimated the cost of the transfer at 57.1 million euros (40 million for Neymar and his family and 17.1 for Santos) but Spanish justice estimates that it actually cost at least 83 million. euros.

DIS, which received 6.8 million euros out of the 17.1 officially paid to the Brazilian club, is claiming 35 million euros, the amount it estimates to have lost in the case.

Towards the end of "Neymar 2"

The PSG star and his parents denied any irregularities during the hearings.

The player, who will try to win the world title with Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar, said he did not "remember" having participated in the negotiations for the exclusive agreement sealed in 2011 and he was entrenched behind his father.

“I sign what he tells me” to sign, he assured, before his father confirmed that the player had “never participated in the negotiations”.

Neymar's father had also maintained that it was not up to him but to Santos to inform DIS of the existence of completely legal negotiations, according to him, and moreover authorized by the Brazilian club in a letter.

This trial has been nicknamed “Neymar 2”, “Neymar 1” designating the case of tax evasion deriving from this same transfer.

It was concluded in 2016 by an agreement between the prosecution and Barça, who agreed to pay a fine of 5.5 million euros.

Neymar and FC Barcelona also clashed in court, but they ended up signing an "amicable" agreement in July 2021, ending all their disputes.
