World Cup competitions have been organized in Ulricehamn in 2017, 2019 and 2021 and the competitions have attracted large audiences.

But for the coming season, the city was nobbed.

Now it is clear that Ulricehamn will be stopped as a competition organizer also in the 2023/2024 season.

This after the World Cup was divided into geographical blocks to reduce travel and increase the sustainability of the arrangements.

The long distance to the other organizers in the Nordic bloc makes the decision.

"Not easy to place in the calendar"

- The number of competition weeks we have is limited and Ulricehamn is not easy to fit into the calendar.

For them, it is most logical to organize a competition in January-February.

Should they have a competition in December, we will not follow our new principles regarding sustainability.

Having said that, Ulricehamn is not completely ruled out in the future, we would like to come back because of the audience and the quality of the arrangements, says Michal Lamplot in Fis to Ulricehamn's newspaper.

Ulricehamn will continue to work to arrange competitions in the World Cup again and according to Jesper Fritzson, chairman of the World Cup company, they aim for the 2024/2025 season.

The Skiing Association: "Too far away"

The Swedish Skiing Association backs Fis but at the same time thinks it's a shame.

- It's a great shame about Ulricehamn, which ended up in the backwaters despite its successes, but there are other aspects and when it comes to the December competitions next year, Ulricehamn is too far away for it to be defensible, says cross-country manager Lars Öberg to BT.
