Ferreira: "The Mouse" denied us Super 2015. Zamalek is currently stronger than Al-Ahly

Veteran Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira confirmed that he is looking forward to winning the only title he could not win with his team when he meets his rival Al-Ahly on Friday at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE city of Al Ain in the nineteenth edition of the Egyptian Super Cup in football.

Ferreira, 76, led Zamalek to the league and cup double twice in the 2014-2015 and 2021-2022 seasons, but lost the Super Cup against Al-Ahly itself and at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium also in 2015 with a score of 2-3.

Ferreira said in the press conference on the eve of the poles match: “The 2015 match has become a thing of the past, and despite our loss, I remember that we made a great show in the first half, as we advanced with a goal and got a penalty kick that (Mahmoud Abdel Moneim) wasted Kahraba (the current Al-Ahly player) and Adel Al-Ahly at the end of the half. The first is through an undeserved penalty, and if there was video technology (VAR) at the time, it would not have counted."

And he continued, "Seven years after the last match, a lot of things have changed, and fortunately, it is for the benefit of Zamalek."

Zamalek outperformed its local rivals in the last two years by winning the league title twice, as well as the Egypt Cup last July at the expense of "Al-Ahmar" 2-1.

The Portuguese coach confirmed that “Zamalek is currently stronger, but this must be proven on the field,” considering that “it is a great honor to play the Super, which means that the team in it is the champion of the league or cup in his country, but Zamalek plays while he is crowned with both titles.” .

For his part, Zamalek star Ahmed Sayed (Zizou) said, "The players' ambition is to achieve an unprecedented treble (after the league and cup), which will be written in the records of this generation."

The top scorer in the Egyptian league last season with 19 goals confirmed that "the matches between Zamalek and Al-Ahly are played on small details, and the most focused is the one who wins."

Al-Shennawy promises compensation - Al-Ahly coach Marcel Koller considered that "the match will be strong and important for both teams, the public and all football lovers," stressing that he is still in the stage of getting to know his team.

Koehler, who took over the leadership of Al-Ahly in September as a replacement for the Portuguese Ricardo Soares, said, "I have only been with Al-Ahly for 6 weeks. Every day I learn something new. Zamalek is a very strong team, but we must not forget that Al-Ahly is also a great team."

Mohamed El-Shennawy, the international goalkeeper for Al-Ahly, promised his team's fans to compensate, "We lost the league and the cup against Zamalek, but we promise our fans that this (super) tournament will be in our favour. We are playing in a new season, and we will compete for all championships and restore everyone's confidence in us."

He continued, "Some forget that we won Africa (the title) twice and reached the World Cup (for clubs) twice as well. Why do we ask about losing the league and the cup only? We went through difficult conditions for international players and the stress they were exposed to, now things are better, and we (the players) know the meaning of The word Al-Ahly, and we know that we are the largest club in Africa.”
