The New York Islanders defeated the rivals Rangers 3-0 in the NHL ice hockey.

Ilja Sorokin managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time there this season, despite 41 shots being sent at his goal.

Coach Lane Lambert naturally had only good things to say about his Russian goalkeeper.

- He was outstanding.

He made a couple of saves early on.

I think he was fantastic, he says.

But the Islanders also managed well enough on offense.

- We managed to make some breaks and played a little faster and that resulted in a couple more opportunities for us, says two-goal shooter Kyle Palmieri.

The Islanders thus broke a losing streak after three games.

Things are worse for Rangers, who after the derby are up to four straight losses, although two of them happened after a draw at the end of the regular match.

- Every team goes through a losing streak during the year at some point.

Our tough suite is going on right now.

We just have to work through this.

We have no other choice.

If I know this team, and I think I do, we're not going to lay down and die," Rangers' Swedish center Mika Zibanejad said.

Josh Bailey scored the 2–0 goal.

He played his 999th NHL game.
