"We already see great interest in making money for this important cause, many organizations and associations have contacted us to help.

The hockey world is now closing in on the work to solve the mystery of ALS.

The foundation will ensure that all gifts received contribute to following Börje Salming's spirit," says the foundation's chairman Rikard Josefson in a press release.

The board includes the former ice hockey star Nicklas Lidström, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's vice chairman Peter Forsberg, Börje Salming's wife Pia and daughter Teresa.

Börje Salming, 71, was diagnosed with ALS this summer and the disease has developed rapidly.

Börje Salming can no longer speak and he has difficulty eating as usual and receives much of his nutrition via tube feeding.
