The rout too many.

Powerless on his bench during the heavy defeat of his team on the field of Fulham (3-0), Thursday during the 12th day of the Premier League, Steven Gerrard was dismissed from his duties as coach of Aston Villa in the evening.

"Aston Villa FC can confirm that coach Steven Gerrard is leaving the club with immediate effect," the club wrote in a statement.

We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment, and wish him well for the future.

Legend of Liverpool, Gerrard pays for the poor results of the formation of Birmingham, currently 17th in the Premier League, tied on points (9) with the 18th and first relegation, Wolverhampton.

Villa have won just two of their eleven league games this year.

Thursday's rout was the final straw for the club's management, who sacked Gerrard after just eleven months in charge.

Gerrard and his players were booed after the match by Villa fans, furious at the defeat at Fulham which brought the club's number of games without a win to four.

Gerrard led Aston Villa to 14th place last season.

He had arrived from Rangers to replace Dean Smith in November 2021, with a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Pochettino and Tuchel approached?

During his press conference after the meeting against Fulham, Gerrard had sworn to save his job.

“I am a fighter, I will never, ever give up anything, whether in football or in life.

We'll see what happens.

I will continue to fight, unless I am told otherwise,” he said.

Unfortunately for him, that was the case only a few minutes later.

Former PSG and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been mentioned for the job, as has former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Other potential candidates include Unai Emery, who has Premier League experience with Arsenal, and former Burnley manager Sean Dyche, a veteran of numerous relegation battles with the Clarets.
