The Spanish newspaper "MARCA" reported that Barcelona defender Gerard Pique will build a hotel on the land of a large Islamic cemetery dating back to the ancient Andalusian era, in the center of the city of Malaga.

The newspaper said that Pique, who owns some private companies and commercial projects, recently obtained, after fighting a big battle, the planning permission from the competent authorities, giving him the green light to move forward with construction work on the plot of land.

She pointed out that the reason for the delay in building permission is due to the fact that the land is one of the important archaeological monuments, as a medieval Islamic cemetery was erected on the land in question.

Pique was allowed to build the hotel on a land area of about 3,000 square meters, and if there are no obstacles, construction of the hotel is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2023.

Marca quotes archaeologist Alberto Compean's explanation that "the tombs are empty, probably never used, and not of sufficient value for preservation. They date back to the 15th century. It is one of the largest on the peninsula."
