According to UEFA boss Aleksander Ceferin, the project of a Super League as a competition event for the Champions League in Europe is "dead" despite the new attempt by the makers.

The President of the European Football Union (UEFA) said on Thursday (local time) according to the AP news agency in Buenos Aires.

"We're here to talk about football and that (the Super League) isn't football," the 55-year-old Slovenian told journalists in Argentina.

Most recently, the three top clubs Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus Turin, led by the German Bernd Reichart, had started a new attempt for a European Super League.

Among other things, the makers refrained from the original plan of a largely closed league with permanent membership.

German association representatives nevertheless expressed their rejection of the project again.

The Superliga project failed in its original form in April 2021.

UEFA, which organizes what is currently the most important international club competition, the Champions League, put up massive resistance.

Of the twelve top clubs that initially sought a spin-off, nine withdrew within a few hours.

German clubs were not among the founding members.
