Despite a strong performance by shooting star Franz Wagner, the Orlando Magic lost at the start of the NBA.

In their first game of the season in the North American professional basketball league, the Magic lost 109-113 at the Detroit Pistons, the 21-year-old Wagner had 20 points a month after winning bronze at the home championship.

Brother Moritz Wagner was not in the squad due to an ankle injury.

The other four German NBA professionals also got off to an unfortunate start.

The Dallas Mavericks with Maximilian Kleber lost a 17-point half-time lead against the Phoenix Suns and lost 105:107.

Superstar Luka Doncic had 35 points, Kleber had two and five rebounds in 26 minutes of the game.

Isaiah Hartenstein also suffered an opening defeat with the New York Knicks.

Even 16 points from the German center, who, like Kleber, had missed the European Championships at home, were not enough - the Knicks lost 112:115 to the Memphis Grizzlies after overtime.

The Indiana Pacers, club of national player Daniel Theis, lost to the Washington Wizards 107:114.

However, as is usually the case in the preparation, the German center was not taken into account.

With the currently injured Dennis Schröder (thumb surgery), the sixth German NBA professional with the Los Angeles Lakers had to accept a defeat at the start of the league the day before (109:123 against the Golden State Warriors).
