Anna Amholt was a talented goalkeeper in the national team and club team HV71.

In April 2020, she was one of all Swedes who were infected by corona, but in her case the recovery did not come as expected.

Instead, Amholt fell ill in postvicide and is still suffering the effects of it.

On Wednesday, she announced, aged 22, that her ice hockey career is over.

Right now she is being investigated for ME/CFS, a kind of neurological disease that makes the person very tired and exhausted, and hopes to get clearer answers in November.

"A real roller coaster"

Everyday life is still very much affected by the disease.

- When other people are working, I mostly lie down and rest.

I can do something, but then I have to rest and listen to my body.

And then it's about small things like being able to cook, clean or go for a walk.

She says that it has been a difficult and long process to accept her new life.

Maybe want to work with ice hockey

- It has been a real roller coaster.

A lot of ups and downs.

About a year ago, I tried to work.

By then I had gathered courage and strength and thought "now it will work".

When it didn't work, all the must was sucked out of me and I just crashed.

Not just physically but very much mentally.

Do you think you will return to hockey in the future?

- No, I find it very difficult to see that my body would perform at that level again.

And even if I were to get that healthy, I appreciate other things in life now.

Then it is not impossible that I would work with ice hockey in some other way in the future.

We'll see what happens.
