The victory in Las Vegas was Ilir Latifi's second straight in the heavyweight class and came after three rounds via decision.

But what also attracted a lot of attention was the Scanian's statement in the match interview afterwards, where he revealed that he was actually close to canceling at short notice.

- My leg is swollen.

I didn't even tell my coaches.

I got a staph infection two days ago.

As you can see here, my leg is completely swollen.

When I woke up this morning, I just felt that I can't cancel another fight, so I went to the fight with a fever and staph, it's part of being a fighter, he said among other things.

The Nevada Commission condemns the conduct

The statement was met with reactions, as that type of bacterial infection can potentially lead to serious infections in the blood.

And now the Nevada State Athletic Commission has decided to temporarily suspend Latifi due to what has happened.

The commission said in a statement that "the behavior is not tolerated" but added that it had been in contact with Latifi, who then expressed regret about his decision to compete with an infection in his body.

"Don't know what's going on"

The Swedish MMA veteran must now await a so-called assessment agreement from the commission, which will determine whether he can compete in the state again or not.

At the same time, the question is how much of an impact it has on Latifi.

In the same match interview, he opened up about the fact that he is starting to see the end of his career:

- I am turning 40 now and do not know what will happen in the future.

We'll see what happens.
